Under the surface of Skálholt

This May, culture will be celebrated in Skálholt every Saturday with a diverse program of talks and guided walks, highlighting the area’s nature, history, and cultural heritage. One of the events will be held in English.


Saturday 24th of May at 3 pm, Gavin Lucas, professor in Archaeology, University of Iceland gives a lecture on the archaeological excavations at Skálholt between 2002 and 2007. He will give an overview of the work, including the history of previous research at the site and what we have learnt from the more recent investigations about life in the 17th and 18th centuries at one of the most important settlement.


Meet at 3:00 pm in the lecture hall in Skálholt, by restaurant Hvönn.


All events are free and open to everyone. Uppbyggingasjóður Suðurlands sponsors the event.


The restaurant Hvönn will be open, offering, among other things, the soup of the day and bread as part of a special offer.
