Marriage ceremony
Skálholtskirkja is ideal for marriage ceremonies. The church is extremely bright and beautiful, and the acoustics are one of the best in the country. The church seats 250 people, but with additions it is possible to have seats for up to 280 people.

The following information must be provided:
Names and social security numbers of the bride and groom
Legal domicile of the bride and groom
Contact phone number and email address
The exact date and time of the wedding
Name of priest and organist
A ceremony that takes place in Skálholt Church must be a church ceremony and a priest must perform the ceremony.
It is a condition that all music in the church is performed live, i.e. not played by string. Access to microphones and a sound system is available, but must be requested in advance. Skálholtskirkja's organist is Jón Bjarnason and he likes to perform music at weddings. Jón's email address is jon@skalholt.is
Relatives of the wedding from access to the church 1 hour before the wedding to set up and prepare. All decorations installed must be taken down and removed after the ceremony. It is not allowed to have rice on church steps or decorations spread over the floor and steps.
Church wardens always work during the summer. They help with preparations and make sure that people other than the wedding guests enter the church during the ceremony. If the wedding takes place in winter, this service cannot be provided.
The fee for using Skálholt Church is ISK 30,000. An invoice will be sent to your local bank after the ceremony.
