The architecture of Skálholt Church

Hörður Bjarnason, the building master of the state, designed the church, and its appearance is modern and stylish, but it is partially modeled on the ancient cathedrals. At the Skálholt festival in 1956, the cornerstone of the new church was laid, but the church itself was consecrated in 1963 by the bishop of Iceland, dr. Sigurbirni Einarsson. On the inauguration day on July 21, the minister of church affairs handed over dr. Bjarni Benediktsson to the National Church of Skálholt for the preservation and promotion of Christianity in the country.
